ARTIST
STATEMENT

When I create art, I open up to a deep place within myself, a place of care
and trust. My objective is to achieve both a compositional and emotional
balance through the use of intense complimentary color arrangement juxtaposed
with deliberate lines and delicate shading. By removing pigment from monochromatic
surfaces, or sanding through layers of color, even tearing off textured
areas of paint, then reintroducing the pigment as collage, I express an
essential statement. The bold, free strokes depict the anarchy in nature,
which is a part of humankind. The precise penciled hues, and the presence
of the grid reflect another side of human nature: the need to control and
create structures in our life. These contrasting elements represent the
wholeness of our opposites, the duality within humankind, and the balance
of my nature.
